Be Water Wise in Woodland
On Friday, February 27, 2009, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a drought state of emergency due to three years of below-average rain and snowfall in California. All urban water users are requested to make necessary efforts to reduce individual water use by 20 percent. Mandatory water rationing may be enacted statewide if the measures taken are insufficient to conserve enough water. For more information, please see the Department of Water Resources State Drought webpage and the Water Resources Association of Yolo County.
The City of Woodland is asking its residents, commercial and industrial sites, schools, and all other community members to do their part to reach the 20 percent reduction goal. The City is launching a Water Conservation Initiative and encourages all water consumers to comply with the following voluntary conservation measures. To be Water-Wise in Woodland and support the Water Conservation Initiative, follow the voluntary conservation measures below and Conserve Water! Check your house for leaks and fix all you find (toilets, faucets, sprinklers). Only do full loads of laundry and dishes. No hosing down of hardscape surfaces except for health and safety purposes. Spas and pools should be covered when not in use. Early morning hours are best for watering lawns (between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.). Replace old fixtures & appliances with high-efficiency models. (see our rebates) Value water: turn it off while doing dishes, brushing teeth, and washing hands. Evaluate sprinklers and adjust so they don’t water pavement.
Water only as needed (often as little as once every two weeks). Adjust your sprinkler system according to the season and weather conditions. Turn off sprinklers during rain. Equip all hoses or filling apparatuses with automatic shut-off nozzles. Retain soil moisture by using mulch around the base of plants.
