Summer Reading at Woodland Public Library

This summer at the Woodland Public Library all ages can participate in our Summer Reading Program and Build a Better World! The program runs from June 1st through the end of July, and all ages can read five books and earn a prize. We will have paper logs again but are also using on online program called Beanstack, where participants can log more books and activities to earn more rewards like prizes and entries into a raffle. Summer Reading information is up on our website, and patrons can register for Beanstack there, or at wpl.beanstack.org using a smart phone, tablet, or computer.

Sixth Grade Graduation Party

Woodland Community Services is holding a party exclusively for students promoting from sixth to seventh grade at the end of the school year. All sixth grade students are invited to the red carpet themed Sixth Grade Grad Party on June 2 to celebrate those students finishing sixth grade. This semi-formal event will be held at the Community & Senior Center, at 2001 East Street, from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Kentucky Avenue Widening and Complete Streets Project (CIP # 04-07)

The City of Woodland has awarded the contract for the widening and reconstruction of Kentucky Avenue to Teichert Construction. Construction is scheduled to begin May 1, 2017 and be completed by late 2018.

A public information meeting will be held at The Yolo County Farm Bureau located at 69 W. Kentucky Avenue, Woodland, CA 95695 on Wednesday, April 26th at 5:30 pm to discuss the project. Attendance is encouraged as this will be an opportunity to learn about the project scope, traffic impacts, and to have questions answered regarding the project.

New Medication Disposal Kiosk at the Woodland Police Department

Safely dispose of unneeded medications in the new medication disposal kiosk at the Woodland Police Department (1000 Lincoln Avenue). The kiosk is located in the Police Department lobby, which is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The following items may be disposed of in the kiosk:

  • Pill and liquid medications
  • Medicated ointments and lotions
  • Pet medications

The kiosk is sponsored by Yolo County in an effort to prevent improper disposal and unauthorized use of pharmaceuticals.

Kentucky Avenue Widening and Complete Streets Project

This week, city staff received Caltrans and Federal authorization to proceed with construction on the Kentucky Avenue Project. Staff is finalizing the project documents for bid advertisement late September/early October with bid opening anticipated in November. Construction of public utility improvements and private utility relocations are anticipated to begin by November 2016 with the roadway widening and reconstruction work to begin in spring 2017.
