"Red Flag Warning" Issued in Yolo County

October 11, 2017

As fires continue to burn throughout the state, Woodland Fire and fire departments throughout California have answered the call for assistance as resources have been deployed to those communities in need. A (multi-engine) Strike Team comprised of Woodland, Yocha Dehe, UC Davis, Willow Oaks, and Roseville Fire resources deployed several days ago and are presently assigned to the to the LNU Complex in Napa County.   The Woodland Fire Department has also staffed an additional engine within the City in anticipation of an increased fire danger.

A Red Flag Warning is issued for weather events which may result in extreme fire behavior that will occur within 24 hours. Due to low humidity and expected strong winds, the National Weather Service has issued a "Red Flag Warning" for much of Northern California including Yolo County and the greater Sacramento area for Wednesday and Thursday. During these times extreme caution is urged by all residents, because a simple spark can cause a major wildfire. All outdoor burning is highly discouraged. Gusty winds are anticipated to increase and any fires which occur will spread rapidly so limiting sources of ignition is essential. Residents are also encouraged to create defensible space by clearing brush away from their homes and businesses. Smoke drifting in from regional fires may cause breathing difficulties so remain indoors and limit outside exposure.
