Yolo Alert System and the Great ShakeOut

All public safety agencies in Sacramento, Yolo, and Placer counties have partnered to have a state of the art community notification system to alert residents about emergency events and other important public safety information. Yolo County's system is called "Yolo Alert" This system enables us to provide you with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods The annual test of this is system is scheduled for October 19th at 10:19 to coincide with the California Great Shakeout. This event has been registered on the Great California ShakeOut website as including 129,000 participants. The test is currently programmed to notify the public via text, phone call, and/or email as follows:

  • To send to everything EXCEPT Yellow Pages Data (to cut down on the number of businesses notified)
  • With a customized voice recording (so that residents hear a human voice)
  • To send to every contact physically within the Yolo County boundary
  • Is using the Yolo County Operational Area OES office main line as the caller ID (530) 406-4930 (so that our staff can answer calls from the public)
