Woodland Public Library is proud to join with Beanstack and almost 100 other libraries across the country and abroad for the 2018 Winter Reading Challenge!! The goals is for these libraries to encourage their patrons in reading at least 1.3 million minutes and 55,000 books during the month of January. If this goal is met, Mark Cuban, billionaire investor and Shark Tank personality, will donate $25,000 to First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise that provides new books, learning materials, and other essentials to children in need. He will also give $10,000 for top-performing libraries to use for their community programs or donate to nonprofit organizations in their area.
Register for the Winter Reading Challenge on the Library's Website
The Woodland Public Library has set its own library reading goals of 500 minutes and 500 books, and patrons have from January 1st through the 31st to read and log their reading on the library’s Beanstack platform. This is an all-ages program, and we hope to get all of our Summer Reading participants back on Beanstack, as well as encouraging other Woodland residents to hop on and register. The Beanstack site is easy to use and works well on smart phones, tablets, and computers. It can be accessed through the library’s website, on library catalog computers, or at wpl.beanstack.org online. Library staff are happy to help you register and log books and minutes at the library desks. You can share your successes and read about other participants on social media using the hashtag #WinterRead2018.
The library helped nominate First Book as the recipient of the donation. This is a wonderful organization and Mark Cuban’s donation will bring great joy to many children. We hope you will help us to meet our goal while enjoying some reading in the new year. We encourage each participant to try to read at least 4 books during the month, but of course every book and minute logged will contribute to the total goal. Those who complete the 4 book goal will win a beautiful bookmark and a winter reader magnet to celebrate their success and contribution to this excellent cause. The challenge Woodland to sign up on Beanstack and curl up with some good books in January!
