Road Program Update:

Kentucky Avenue

The City’s contractor, Teichert Construction, continues with underground work and the widening of Kentucky Avenue (see pictures below). The contractor plans to pave the widened portions of Kentucky in summer 2018 before reconstructing the existing pavement. Project completion is anticipated by the end of 2018. Throughout construction all businesses are accessible from Kentucky Avenue.

When complete, Kentucky Avenue will have new sidewalks, bike lanes, landscape and medians. The roadway between West and College streets will have one lane in each direction with a two-way turn lane. From College to East streets, the roadway will have two lanes in each direction with turn lanes and/or medians. The project is primarily grant funded with matching funds from the Measure E sales tax.

2018 Road Maintenance

The 2018 Road Maintenance project is starting construction. The City’s contractor, Pavement Coatings, will begin associated utility work the week of May 7th and they plan to resurface the roads beginning early June 2018.

This project will perform pavement maintenance seals in pavement zones 9,10, 11, and 14 of the City (see zone map belwo). This is the area within the City limits east of East Street, north of Main Street, and also includes the public streets adjacent to the Woodland Gateway Shopping Center. The work is primarily on local streets with some work on collector and arterial streets.

W. Court Street

On May 1, staff opened bids on the West Woodland Safe Routes to School Project (W. Court Street reconstruction project). Two bids were received with the lowest being within 1% of the Engineers Estimate. Staff is evaluating the bids for compliance and is on calendar to bring the project for award during the May 15th Council meeting.

The Safe Routes to School Project will microsurface and restripe, W. Woodland Avenue from County Road 98 to Mariposa Street, California Street from W. Beamer Street to Main Street, and Court Street from West Street to Walnut Street, to include bike lanes. Other streets within the project limits will have shared lane markings installed. The project will also rehabilitate W. Court St. from Ashley Avenue to West Street, and restripe the roadway with bike lanes. As a result of the micro-surface and rehabilitation, all the adjacent curb ramps will be updated to current accessibility standards (ADA). The four signalized intersection along W. Court Street will be updated with new bicycle detection loops to accommodate the new bike lanes and the crosswalks will be updated to include count down pedestrian heads and accessible pedestrian signals.

W. Main Street

The W. Main Street reconstruction project is progressing and design is currently approximately 75% complete. The project remains on schedule for bidding this winter for construction summer 2019.

The project will rehabilitate the pavement on W. Main Street from West Street to County Rd 98. Improvements include installation of bicycle lanes, sidewalk and ADA improvements, improvements for transit and traffic signal modifications throughout the corridor. The project will also construct sidewalk and storm drain improvements between Ashley and Cottonwood on the south side of roadway.
